Affordable Tailor Made Clothing for Men

March 30, 2016Blog Standard

If my friends are anything to go by, most men dismiss the idea of buying bespoke suits and shirts simply because they assume that it would be too expensive. However, if you don’t mind shopping around and doing a little research online, you can find a local tailor  who is willing to make a suit and new shirts for you at a very reasonable price. Follow my tips below and you should be able to locate one near you.

My Search for Affordable Tailors in Devon

As I live on the outskirts of Exeter, I naturally focused my search on tailors in the city and the surrounding area but you can of course concentrate on the part of the country in which you live. Wherever that may be, the tips I am going to give you should make it easy to find local tailors whose prices are more than reasonable.

1. Ask Work Colleagues for Recommendations – This tip is of course most useful if you happen to work in an office and some of your colleagues wear tailor made clothes. If this is the case, you can simply ask those whose suits impress you the most where they have them made. If, on the other hand, you work on a building site, you will have to look elsewhere for clues.

2. Take a Stroll Around Your Local Town or City Centre – Unless you have made a special effort to find them before, there is a good chance that you have walked past several local tailors without even noticing their presence. The next time you have a couple of hours to spare, drive into town and take a stroll around the main shopping area to look for local tailors. If you should find any, go into the shops and spend a few minutes discussing your requirements with the staff.

3. Search Online – If you have no luck with the first two tips above, you can spend half an hour searching online for local tailors, bookmarking any sites that catch your eye. Make an appointment to visit any that look promising.

Once you have a shortlist of local shops where you can have a suit made to order, ask for detailed quotations from each one. If you don’t like the prices you are quoted by the tailors in Devon or wherever you happen to live, it is always worth asking for a discount as many are willing to negotiate.
